This week I’m hosting Lisa Carter with Carolina Reckoning, Steve Rzasa with Crosswind and Sandstorm (The Sark Brothers Tales–US and Canada only) and Carla Olson Gade with Pattern for Romance (US only). If you want to enter the drawings for the books, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at email@example.com. The drawings end Sunday (Aug 18th) evening.
1. Winch, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Well, I reckon that would be my secret work for the city-state of Perch, thwarting sundry evil threats against my home and my people. It’s quite a change from my job as a reporter for the Perch Advocate newspaper, covering the news in the valley between the Sawtooth Mountains of southern Galderica. It involves going undercover in a rival city-state, discovering secret passages and ancient crypts, and foiling an invasion.
2. What do you do for fun?
I read as many books as the local library will let me take home at once.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Flying. I don’t cotton to travel by aero-plane, not with those infernal flash steam engines winging me through the sky. Of course, that fear is much diminished whenever my brother, Copernicus Sark, is behind the controls. There isn’t a finer pilot around.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Failing my family. Letting them down when they need me most. A reasonable fear, I believe, for a father and husband.
5. What is the most important thing to you?
To serve the Allfather and the Exaltson with all my heart, all my soul and all my strength. My faith in the Three-Yet-One is the most valuable possession I have.
6. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
As I said, I love books. I prefer historical volumes. Most recently I polished off a rare copy of the explorer Goodrick Nunez’s Seventeen Months with the Caminante. It proved most…illuminating given my travels as of late.
7. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My ability to defend myself and others. I am not the most rugged of men, so when it comes to fisticuffs I need formal training to be of most effect against the villains my brother and I face with alarming regularity. I am a fair shot with a revolver, however.
8. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No, I have no pets. I do make use of the two branters we have in the stable behind the Perch Advocate, when I need to make a quick trip around the city-state and the motorwagon is down for repairs.
9. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I would travel back to the collapse of the Great Commonwealth 500 years ago. Not that I have a morbid desire to experience the suffering of my ancestors, but there are so many rumors and suppositions about what really caused its fall that I want to see the truth for myself. Was it the coinciding of the three plagues? The shift in weather that cooled things dramatically and ruined crops? The civil war that wracked the capital a century before? Or all these things?
